Enrol Muhammad in primary school
Muhammad is 6 years old and must attend primary school. He will be in kindergarten.
Nahida decides to enrol Muhammad in the local public school.
They first attend an enrolment interview with the school principal.
The school has booked an interpreter to help. Nahida completes an application form and brings the required documents. Muhammad is enrolled in kindergarten. He receives learning support in the classroom because he is learning English as an additional language.
Receive NDIS support
Muhammad has a disability and can receive support through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The NDIS connects people with disability with services in their community. It also provides funding and support to enhance their quality of life and promote independence.
Nahida is connected with a support service to help with the application process.
Access a dental health service
Nahida has a dental problem and needs to see a dentist. She has a Health Care Card so she can receive free dental services at the public dental clinic.
Nahida calls the Oral Health Intake Information Service and uses her Medicare card to book an appointment. She books an interpreter to help her with this process.
Access community hubs
There is a Community Hub at Muhammad’s school. Nahida visits the Hub and makes new friends with women from many different backgrounds. Some even speak her language.
Nahida goes to conversational English classes. She also gets help to use a computer at the Community Hub.
Volunteer at the local library
Nahida wants to learn more about her community. She decides to volunteer at the local library.
Nahida completes an online form, attends an informal interview, and provides documents in English.
Nahida runs a knitting club in her home language and loves helping with children’s story time programs.
